Cardiomyopathies are a group of life-threatening heart muscle diseases that represent a significant proportion of heart failure and are one of the leading causes of heart transplantation. Every year about 1,000-5,000 new cases are diagnosed with pediatric cardiomyopathy, with the majority of the patients being less than 12 months old. The cause of a significant percentage of cardiomyopathies (~40%) remains unknown with poorly defined mechanisms and no curative therapies. The long-term goals of my group are to explore new genes, mechanisms and relevant drugs that have significant clinical and curative impact on cardiomyopathies
