Facility In-charge: High throughput/High Content Screening (HCS) Facility at the Bangalore Life Science Cluster (BLiSc)

The Bangalore Life Science Cluster (BLiSc) consists of the National Center for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Institute for Stem Cell Biology (inStem) and Regenerative Medicine and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) in Bangalore. BLiSc supports life sciences research at the frontiers of modern biology.

Applications are invited for the position of the facility-in-charge of the HCS facility at BLiSc

The HCS Research Core Facility provides infrastructure and expertise for assay development, assay miniaturization, chemical and genetic screening (phenotypic cell based as well as target-based screens). This includes expertise in cell culture, robotics platform, chemical and genetic libraries, high content imaging and data analysis. The facility develops and adapts various screening related methods to provide cutting-edge solutions for individual research projects.

The successful candidate will:

  • lead the BLiSc Screening Core Facility and coordinate a team of staff.
  • consult scientists on the technical capabilities of various screening platforms available
  • support researchers with state-of-the-art assay development and screening solutions
  • develop and implement new techniques to keep the performance of the unit at the highest possible level
  • adapt hardware and software as appropriate to specific needs
  • coordinate activities with other labs within the BLiSc campus to maximize synergy

Responsibilities

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the High throughput/High Content Screening core facility.
  • Work closely with end users for miniaturising assays for screening platforms as well as provide other automation solution using the available robotics
  • Develop and improve operation of the facility.
  • Develop tools, methods and approaches to analyze high content datasets, keeping abreast of emerging trends in this rapidly evolving field
  • Develop and conduct training programs for students and trainees to learn hands-on assay development, miniaturisation, screening and analysis
  • Ensuring that the facility maintains state-of-the-art instrumentation and is working at the frontiers of the relevant field.
  • Aid in biological interpretation of screening data
  • Ensure routine maintenance on instrumentation and servers
  • Present work at  internal and external meetings
  • Overseeing budget and expenses

Qualifications

Essential

  • PhD with post-PhD experience, primarily in assay development and high content screening
  • Direct hands on experience with cell based and homogeneous assays, assay miniaturisation, good working knowledge of the instrumentation involved including automated imaging systems, robotics platforms such as Tecan, liquid dispensers, plate readers and data storage solutions

Desirable

  • Hands-on experience with analysis software, preferably open source environment
  • Experience using statistical packages, data visualization and coding skills is a plus

Personal qualities

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Good communication skills and an ability to engage with scientists, understand their scientific needs and provide inputs on automation and screening solutions
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Willingness to train, teach students and trainees for their screening projects.
