The Bangalore Life Science Cluster is back with the Science Cafe! This month's edition has been organised with the "Under the Raintree" festival. The festival is a unique initiative curated by women for women. As usual, Entry for the Cafe is Free and Is open to all! Our speakers this time around are two inspiring scientists- Dr Srikala Raghavan and Dr Shannon Olsson. The topic of their talks is as follows.

  • Getting Under Our Skin' by Dr Srikala Raghavan, Cell Biologist & Associate Professor, InStem
  • 'Connecting with Nature' by Dr Shannon Olsson, Chemical Ecologist & Associate Professor, NICE-NCBS

Dr Srikala Raghavan is a cell biologist and an Associate Professor with inStem Bengaluru. She’s worked extensively on skin, and understanding the interaction between skin stem cells and the immune system. Dr Raghavan holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and has worked with Prof. Elaine Fuchs’s lab at the University of Chicago and Rockefeller University for her postdoctoral research. She also holds a joint appointment as a Principal Investigator at the SRIS/IMB, A*STAR, Singapore.

As a Fulbright Scholar and Ramanujan Fellow, Dr Shannon Olsson is part of a larger effort to promote chemical ecology in India. A professor at the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Dr Olson heads the Naturalist-Inspired Chemical Ecology (NICE) group, which combines chemistry, evolutionary biology, ethology, and neuroengineering to understand how different insects have evolved to smell “odor objects” and make decisions.

Do join us for a wonderful evening!
