Science Cafe: A Studio of Paradoxes with Shashi Thutupalli
The simple, the complicated and the complex
Why is a biological cell like a soap bubble and a city at the same time? Can we use the physics of toothpaste to understand how bacteria swim? How do we engineer non-living things to self-replicate like living ones? All this and some more, but most importantly, why are physicists, engineers, mathematicians and sundry rushing over to study biology? Paradoxical though these questions may be, notions of complex systems and how they behave might underlie some of the answers.
