Ketan Thorat is the recipient of the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award 2019. The award, presented by Vice President Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, was for the anti-pesticide dermal gel technology developed in collaboration with Praveen Kumar Vemula at Institute for Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine. He is a member of Praveen Vemula's lab at inStem.

The BIRAC India-SRISTI (Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions) Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award selects 15 entrepreneurial ideas which each receive 15 Lakh as grant support.
