Dr. Mahesh Sahare has been serving as the Head of the Mouse Genome Engineering Facility (MGEF) at inStem/NCBS Bangalore.
A veterinary science professional, specializes in Animal Genetics and Breeding, having earned his degree from Nagpur Veterinary College, MAFSU University, Maharashtra. He was awarded the prestigious MEXT Fellowship to pursue a Ph.D. in Japan, where he completed his doctorate in Reproductive Biology at Kyoto University. His doctoral research focused on establishing spermatogonial stem cell lines in bulls to develop male-mediated transgenesis in livestock.
In 2016, Dr. Sahare joined the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune to establish and lead the transgenic facility. During his tenure at IISER Pune, he received specialized training in genome editing technologies and rodent model generation at the Transgenic Core, University of Alabama, USA. Prior to this, Dr. Sahare worked as a Scientist at Datar Genetics Limited, NashikHe was instrumental in developing a cell-based chemosensitivity diagnostic test to predict the responsiveness of cancer patients to specific drugs.
Dr. Sahare is deeply passionate about generating genome-edited models for fundamental research and drug discovery. His expertise in transgenic technology and genome engineering continues to contribute to advancements in biomedical research.
