ACRC & MGEF

The Animal Care and Resource Center (ACRC) and the Mouse Genome Engineering Facility (MGEF) are state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to supporting animal model research. Our core capabilities span four key areas, Management of specific pathogen-free (SPF) mouse models, Generation of novel genetically engineered mouse models, Cryo-archiving of valuable mouse strains and Comprehensive training programs in animal model research.

The ACRC provides services and resources for investigators to accomplish animal research objectives. This includes, but is not limited to, the acquisition and housing of laboratory animals, training researchers regarding proper animal care and use, providing state-of-the art facilities, and monitoring the safety of all personnel with laboratory animal contact.  Importantly, the ACRC is dedicated to ensuring the humane and ethical usage of animals for research pursuits by strictly complying with the Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CCSEA) and in-house animal care principles, rules, regulations and guidelines.

Currently, we are holding the 280 trains of Mice models including genetically engineered lines, Rats models like Wistar, Sprague Dawley, Long Evans and several transgenic rat strains) and Zebra fish

MGEF is equipped to generate transgenic and knockout rodent models in-house using CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing technology, complemented by advanced assisted reproductive technologies (ART). MGEF caters 32 specialized services related to mouse model development and ART to both academic and non-academic institutions across India.

To date, we have successfully developed 53 novel mouse models using CRISPR technologies for researchers nationwide. Our ART services including genome editing, sperm cryopreservation, embryo cryopreservation, and rederivation facilitates the sharing of valuable animal models and foster collaborative research among the researchers across the country.  This initiative paves the way for establishing a National Mouse Model Cryo-repository, promoting standardization, reproducibility, and accessibility in biomedical research throughout the country.

Over 500+ transgenic and genome engineered rodent stocks can be accessed on The BLiSC Rodent Repository Strain list database.

Workshops/training conducted: We successfully organizing the workshops and training programmes focused on Basic Bio-methodologies in Rodents, Genome Editing, and Assisted Reproductive Technologies in Mouse Models. These sessions aim to enhance technical expertise and practical skills among researchers and students.

In addition, we are actively engaged in conducting Faculty Development Programs designed to empower educators with the knowledge and tools needed to deliver high-quality instruction and actively contribute to scientific innovation.
