IDWGS 2026 – 11 February

BRIC-inStem warmly invites the campus community to celebrate the International Day for Women and Girls in Science (IDWGS) with a day dedicated to curiosity, discovery, and the achievements of women in STEM.  This year’s theme, “Women in STEM: Breaking Barriers with Curiosity” highlights the power of questions, exploration, and perseverance in shaping scientific journeys.

Time: 10 am to 1 pm

Venue: Ectoderm, BRIC-inStem

Students from women’s colleges across Bengaluru will join us for a unique opportunity to engage directly with scientists at the forefront of research.

10 am to 10:20 am – Arrival and submission of entries for Art Competition

10:20 am to 10:30 am – Welcome Address by Dr. Tina Mukherjee, Associate Professor

10:30 am to 11:00 am – Talk by Dr. Indumathi Mariappan, Associate Professor

11:00 am to 11:30 am – Talk by Dr. Latha Chukki, Head-Stem Cell Facility

11:30 am to 11:40 am – Distribution of Art Competition prizes

11:40 am to 12:00 noon – Q&A session with BRIC-inStem researchers

12:00 noon to 12:30 pm – Refreshments and research tours

Guidelines for Art Competition
  • Individual entries only. Each participant may submit one entry. Entries can be submitted when participants arrive for the IDWGS event at BRIC-inStem. No registrations required.
  • Artwork must clearly reflect the theme “Women in STEM: Breaking Barriers with Curiosity.” Entries may depict – Women scientists/innovators/researchers; Scientific exploration or discovery; Overcoming challenges or stereotypes; Curiosity, innovation, or problem-solving in STEM etc.
  • Participants may use painting (watercolour/acrylic/oil), sketchingdrawing, illustrationmixed mediaposter art etc. on A4/A3 size paper.
  • Artwork must be original and created solely by the participant. No plagiarism, copyrighted images, or AI-generated artwork.
  • Each entry must have the name of the participant, course of study, college and phone number on the reverse/backside.
  • A jury will evaluate the submissions on relevance to theme, creativity & originality, artistic technique/skill and overall visual impact. Top 3 entries will be given prizes. The decision of the jury will be final and binding.
  • BRIC-inStem reserves the right to display selected artworks in exhibitions, social media, website, or publications with due credit to the artist. Submission implies consent for non-commercial promotional use.
