inStem Human Stem Cell Biobank (iHSCB)

A state-of-the-art facility dedicated to advancing biomedical research in India.

The repository currently houses stem cells derived in India, from diverse genetic backgrounds. In addition to control/normal human induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC) lines the repository includes a large number of patient-derived iPSCs generated with the aim of understanding mental illnesses, under the Accelerator program for Discovery in Brain disorders using Stem cells (ADBS).

In the near future, we will also include iPSCs from patients with hematological disorders, as well as human embryonic stem cells (hESCs).

A unique resource: The repository houses Indian-origin stem cell lines, derived on campus or from Indian institutes. These cell lines support our local research as well as many collaborative projects. This diverse panel of stem cell lines will help researchers understand the extent to which genetic background may affect stem cell properties. Further, they will be a useful tool to set up benchmarking protocols and stem cell standards.

The iPSC biorepository is an invaluable resource that can be used for studies on developmental biology and regenerative medicine. We hope to facilitate studies that explore the genetic basis and underlying mechanisms of various disorders, potentially leading to innovative therapies. Utilizing patient-specific iPSCs allows for drug screening for various disorders to help develop improved therapies.
