Interorgan crosstalk: Heart and Brain axis

"Many of us take medication for the disease, and we all have come across the side effects because of medications. Specifically, the drugs used for psychological disorders are often reported for cardiac ailments. I aim to study the impact of drugs given for brain-related conditions on cardiac health. I use the knock-out mouse model and patient-derived iPSC model to identify and understand the roles of the genes in brain-heart cross-talk. I use cell and molecular biology techniques, proteomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics to understand the effects of drug treatment on the heart. As a long-term goal, I expect to understand better safe medication practices."
