Cardiovascular diseases
- Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a group of disorders of the heart and the blood vessels. According to World Health Organization (WHO) report, CVDs are the number one killer worldwide. An estimated, 17.7 million people die from CVDs every year.
- Our group is focused on identification of genes, mechanisms and therapeutic targets for CVDs. Currently, we are working on four major types of CVDs including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, congenital heart disease and premature coronary artery disease
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: A heterogenous heart muscle disease leading to thickening of heart
Dilated Cardiomyopathy: A heterogenous heart muscle disease leading to thinning of heart
Congenital heart disease: Malformations of heart structure existing at birth
Coronary artery disease: Disease of blood vessels, supplying the heart muscles
- We also have a special interest in understanding cardiac diseases associated with developmentally challenged kids (RASopathies)
